What is the Agent-to-Agent Protocol?
The Agent-to-Agent (A2A) Protocol uses a /.well-known/agent-card.json file to describe your store's AI agent capabilities. It allows AI agents to discover each other, understand what services are available, and collaborate to complete tasks like product research and purchasing.
Why it matters
- AI agent discovery lets shopping assistants find and interact with your store's agent automatically
- Capability advertising tells other agents exactly what your store can do (search, quote, checkout)
- Interoperability means your store works with any AI agent that speaks the A2A protocol
- Future-proofing positions your store for the emerging agent-to-agent commerce ecosystem
What to do
Create a /.well-known/agent-card.json file that describes your store's agent capabilities, supported actions, authentication requirements, and endpoint URLs. Define the tasks your agent can handle (product search, inventory check, order status) and the input/output formats for each. Start simple and expand capabilities over time.
