How these areas are described

The map. Each visit is placed in a country and, where its location is good enough, a state or province. Countries are grouped into six world regions. US visits are also placed in a county when their location is good enough. A place is shaded by its share of the visits on screen. It opens only when it has enough visits to break down, and a county with too few visits is left unshaded.

Which visits. US states count visits whose location is rated to within about 60 miles (100 km). States and provinces outside the US are approximate, because there are no orders to check them against. Visits on known VPNs are left out, and so are US visits where the device's clock doesn't match the place. Repeat visits from the same browser count once.

Places, not people. These figures describe areas. They say nothing about any one shopper, and Lantern can't tell who made a visit. Audiences on the same store often come from the same areas, so expect similar figures from one audience to the next.
