A useful product page lets a buyer verify whether the item meets a specific need. The same explicit facts can help an assistant interpret the product. Start with accurate, visible information, then keep structured data and feeds consistent with it.
There is no universal attribute count or placement rule that guarantees an AI citation. Required fields depend on the product category, destination and program.
Start with a buyer constraint
In this illustrative example, a shopper needs a bottle that fits a cup holder with a 7 cm opening. The product holds 750 ml, but its base is 7.2 cm wide. Capacity alone cannot answer the fit question.
Weak description | Useful replacement |
|---|---|
“The perfect bottle for every journey” | “750 ml bottle with a 7.2 cm base diameter” |
“Easy to clean” | The actual care instructions, including any lid/body differences |
“Available now” | Availability for the selected size and color |
“Fast delivery” | A delivery estimate for the buyer's destination and order time |
For this example, the correct fit answer is that a 7.2 cm base is wider than the stated 7 cm opening. Do not imply compatibility simply because the product belongs to the right category.
Add structured data that matches the page
Google documents Product structured data and its supported search appearances. The following hypothetical example illustrates consistent product facts. Replace every example value and URL with real, visible information, and check the requirements of the appearance you are implementing.
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Product",
"name": "Example Bottle, 750 ml",
"image": "https://example.com/images/bottle-750.jpg",
"description": "A 750 ml bottle with a 7.2 cm base diameter.",
"brand": { "@type": "Brand", "name": "Example Maker" },
"sku": "EXAMPLE-BOTTLE-750",
"additionalProperty": [
{ "@type": "PropertyValue", "name": "Capacity", "value": "750 ml" },
{ "@type": "PropertyValue", "name": "Base diameter", "value": "7.2 cm" }
],
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"url": "https://example.com/products/bottle-750",
"price": "22.00",
"priceCurrency": "USD",
"availability": "https://schema.org/InStock"
}
}
This is an example, not evidence that a particular product exists or qualifies for every search feature. Add genuine identifiers and applicable properties where required. For subscriptions, make recurring charges, billing frequency and cancellation terms clear rather than presenting one charge as the full cost.
Include ratings only when they reflect real eligible reviews and the visible page. Never copy an example rating or review count into production. Google's structured-data policies require the markup to represent the page accurately.
Use the feed's actual specification
Google Merchant Center publishes a product data specification. Review the requirements for your category and destination rather than targeting a generic number of populated fields.
Documented attribute | Useful check |
|---|---|
id | Stable identity for the item |
title and description | Accurate product and variant information |
link and image_link | Working destinations for the correct product |
price and availability | Consistency with the current offer |
item_group_id | Appropriate grouping of related variants |
material | Relevant, accurate material information where applicable |
additional_image_link | Additional product images when useful |
Use documented feed attributes within their stated scope. A similarly named field in another service is not interchangeable.
Answer real questions in visible content
A concise question such as “Will this fit a 7 cm cup holder?” can be useful when the answer states the measured limitation. Questions should resolve buying uncertainty rather than repeat the sales pitch.
Keep any FAQ markup consistent with visible questions and answers. Do not add arbitrary numbers of FAQs or hide important specifications inside markup. Google's AI-feature guidance does not require additional AI-specific schema.
Verify the complete path
Check the page as rendered to a visitor and through the relevant testing tools. Validate the structured data, inspect feed diagnostics and compare the selected variant with the cart.
For the bottle example, test capacity, base diameter, the selected color, price, stock status and delivery estimate separately. Keep the request, answer and cited URL with the result. If the assistant claims the bottle fits, record the unsupported claim and the source it used before changing the page.
